Symptomtext
I am an acute care pediatric Nurse practitioner, who has Relapsing Remitting Multiple Sclerosis. I received the second Moderna vaccine on 2/2/2021 @ 11:00. At 5:00 pm, I developed the most intense painful headache I have ever had in my life along with an extreme, crushing pain to my hands and feet, almost as if my hands and feet were in a vice grip and someone was tightening the vice. At 11 pm on 2/2/21, I developed a 101.1 temperature, chills and flu-like pain to the rest of my muscles/joints. The temperature, chills and flu-like pain lasted for 36 hours. The headache and vice-like pain were constant and lasted for 23 days. There was no relief despite numerous measures to ease pain. There was no relief despite numerous measures to try and ease the pain, including, but not limited to: Prescribed pain medication: Toradol, Fioricet with/without Codeine, Tylenol #3 OTC analgesics/NSAIDS: Aleve, Ibuprofen, Tylenol, Aspirin Non-pharmacological measures: Deep tissue and scalp massage, Tiger Balm to temple area and hands/feet, heat packs, cold packs, meditation, relaxation breathing, cryo pool. In addition to the symptoms listed above, I have began having new and very concerning MS symptoms since the second Moderna injection. Some of these symptoms occur on a daily basis, while others are present at least 3+ days a week. Prior to 2/2/2021, my MS was very stable, without relapses and I had very rare symptomatology (occasional muscle cramps/spasms, occasional muscle/joint discomfort, occasional migraine/headache since childhood and on a very rare occasion - problems with word finding). I do have moderate heat intolerance as a baseline. These new symptoms made their presence since 2/2/2021: 1) Worsening of my heat intolerance (sweating in 70 degree temperatures) DAILY, 2) Daily headaches (6-10/10) without relief from analgesics, etc, 3) Menstrual irregularity, 4) Insomnia (4+ nights a week), 5) Interrupted sleep (cannot sleep more than 2 straight hours at a time), 6) Fatigued and very little energy, 7) Flu aches (3+ times a week), 8) Feeling light headed/dizzy 4-5 times a week, 9) Problems with balance every day (from 2/3/2022, I have had to hold onto the wall in the shower, because I lose my balance, which I never had to do before. 10) Muscle cramping/spasms -at least 4-5 days a week, 11) Muscle fatigue and weakness. I am unable to stand up from squatting without having something to hold onto as I pull myself up, where as I could do squats and work out in the gym without a bar to hold onto for balance. My legs are weak after one flight of stairs and I feel like I am walking in "quick sand" most every day. 12) My voice has changed, and I have hoarseness at least 2-3 times a week. Sometimes I lose my voice without any type of upper respiratory infection or illness present. I will be singing or talking, and my voice will become "froggy" in sound or no sound will come out. 13) I feel palpitations often, and not with caffeine consumption. 14) Bladder spasms, urinary frequency, nocturia (2-3 times a week) 15) Flushing to face and sweating with eating 5+ times a week. 16) Visual disturbances and frequent blurry vision episodes (at least 3-4 times a week). 4/9/2021 - I had appendicitis 2 months after the second injection, that caused me to be hospitalized for 48 hours. Surgery not indicated, but completed a 14 day course of oral antibiotics. 7/12/2022 - I had TIA like symptoms 5 months after the second injection, and was hospitalized for 24 hours. Brain CT ruled out TIA/stroke and the brain MRI did not reveal any new or active MS brain lesions, so I was diagnosed with "Pseudoflare". Please remember, that I have not had any relapses in the 10 years since I have been diagnosed, only my initial presenting symptom of optic neuritis in 2012. I continue to work full time (40+ hours a week), but after writing all of my symptoms down throughout the year, I felt I should report them.
