PATIENT DEVELOPED PROGRESSIVE STRABISMUS DUE TO BILATERAL 6TH NERVE PALSIES, ABOUT 1 MONTH AFTER THE VACCINES. UNCLEAR IF RELATED TO THE VACCINE, BUT THERE HAVE BEEN REPORTS OF 6TH NERVE PALSY FOLLOWING OTHER VACCINES SUCH AS MMR AND VARICELLA. MOM RECEIVED PFIZER COVID VACCINES DURING PREGNANCY- ON 5/9/21 AND 5/30/21

Symptomtext

Patient presented to health dept for 4 year old shots. Mom reported no drug allergies or history of reactions to vaccines. Following vaccine administration, child began to have the following symptoms: sneezing multiple times, extreme redness of face, generalized splotchiness, swelling, itchiness, and redness of eyes, irritability, mild coughing, and complaints of feeling like he needed to throw up. Patient was monitored and ice packs applied to face/neck and fan put in front of child. Symptoms did not improve after interventions. Diphenhydramine 50mg/1ml 0.6mL IM given to right thigh. Patients coloration improved and he became sleepy after Benedryl given. Vital signs monitored. Vital signs right before leaving clinic were as follows: BP 100/72, RR 18, O2 Sat 95% and HR of 124. Patient left clinic in mothers arms resting in no acute distress. Called mom this afternoon. Child has been resting. Coloration has improved and she reported that he had had red bumps to legs and that they were going down. Advised mom to follow up with pediatrician and to go to ER if any difficulty breathing or symptoms worsen.
