Symptomtext
Approximately 10 years ago, I had oral HSV-1 (cold sores) spread from my lip to my right ear, which had compromised skin due to a sunburn. On 12/21/2021, I woke up with my right ear swollen, and I knew that the HSV-1 virus was going to outbreak, which it had not in the 10 years since it first spread to my ear. As the day progressed, my right ear continued to get more swollen, red, and painful. I was at my grandmother's funeral and could not seek medical care as quickly as I would have liked to. Near the end of the day, I called my primary health care physician in order to receive a prescription for liquid Acyclovir, an antiviral to prevent the spread and duration of HSV-1. I did not get the prescription in time that day, so I had to call several different pharmacies the following day (12/22/2021) in order to locate one that had the liquid version of Acyclovir in-stock. On 12/22/2021 upon waking up, I noticed that my nose and both cheeks seemed to be swollen and turning red. I decided to visit a walk-in-clinic affiliated with my regular doctor's office since it was closed due to the Christmas Holidays, and my primary care doctor was not available for a same-day appointment. It was confirmed that I was having an HSV-1 outbreak that was spreading from my ear to my face, and the only treatment was to receive the medicine I had already been prescribed. I finally got my Acyclovir prescription partially filled later that afternoon and took it religiously 3 times a day for 10 days total. I never developed physical blisters associated with the HSV-1 virus, so I am glad that the medication stopped the progression. The physician's assistant at the walk-in-clinic told me I had to be careful of the spread because it was close to my eyes. It could cause blindness. I am concerned that my immune system was compromised after receiving my third COVID-19 vaccine (booster shot). My mother also developed the shingles from her second COVID-19 shot. There seems to be a trend of herpes-related viruses outbreaking after receiving COVID-19 dosages.
