Symptomtext

shingles; sore arm; This is a spontaneous report from a contactable consumer reported herself. A 62-years-old female patient received first dose of BNT162b2 (Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine), at the age of 62-years-old , via an unspecified route of administration, administered in Arm Left on 09Mar2021 (Batch/Lot Number: ENB6206) as single dose for covid-19 immunisation. Medical history included asthma (Ongoing), Addison's disease (Ongoing), Bronchiectasis (Ongoing), Myelodysplastic syndrome, bone marrow cancer, make abnormal red blood cells. She reports she has Addison's disease and she takes high doses of steroids so her weight never goes down no matter what she does. She also has severe fluid retention in her legs and feet. She's on 2 fluid medications and has a Flexitouch leg compression garments she uses twice a day. Her doctor told her if he could lower her dose of steroids she could lose weight. But her doctor can't lower the steroid dose because she ends up in Addison's crisis with her body shutting down and she ends up in the hospital. She takes extra fluid medication when she gains 3 lbs. or more overnight. The fluid pills also make her potassium drop. Her potassium has dropped to 2.3 and that caused her to have to stay in the hospital for 3 days with a potassium infusion. She reports it's hard to hold a pen because she took her cat to the veterinarian and the cat bit her hand and she got a massive infection in her fingers and hands and now has limited use of her hands. she is also anemic and has low oxygen in her blood and high carbon dioxide level in her blood. Concomitant medications included hydrocortisone (tablets) taken for an unspecified indication from an unspecified start date and ongoing at 15mg in the morning, 10mg at lunch and 5 mg in the afternoon. She used to take 30mg/20mg/10mg. She gets 250 tablets at a time. Some weeks she takes 3 pills a day, some weeks she takes 5 pills. It depends on her Addison's disease; hydrocortisone sodium succinate (SOLU-CORTEF) taken for an unspecified indication, start and stop date were not reported, has emergency Solu-Cortef injection in case she gets ill or can't keep her medications down; ascorbic acid, cyanocobalamin, ferrous fumarate, folic acid (ANEMIC-B12) taken for an unspecified indication, start and stop date were not reported. The patient previously had a reaction to a preservative in the first shingles vaccine. It has been about 6-7 years since that happened. extra fluid medication she takes was Metolazone 5mg she takes anytime she has severe swelling or gains more than 3 pounds. She had her first injection on 09Mar2021 and she had no problems except a sore arm. She used ice for 2 days then heat and her arm was better in 2-3 days. She was supposed to get her second Covid 19 vaccine on 30Mar2021 but on 24Mar2021 she woke up with shingles which meant she couldn't get her second Covid 19 vaccine. She has been seen by her doctor on 25Mar2021 and he started her on Valacyclovir 400mg two times daily. She has one pharmacist telling her she can receive her second Covid 19 vaccine after her shingles clear up. A second pharmacist told her she shouldn't get the shingles vaccine until it's been 90 days. A physician is telling her she can't get the second Covid 19 vaccine for 90 days. She wants to know when she can get her second Covid 19 vaccine. She's calling to find out when she can get her scond Covid 19 vaccine. She's trying not to get stressed out because of her Addison's disease. She reports she still has some crusting red blotches on her back. On her back the shingles was really bad. The shingles went down her left hip, down left leg, left lower stomach and across her left back and buttock. She reports she used ice on her shingles and covered them with antibacterial gauze. She reports her mother has had shingles and she didn't take any medicine and had pain all the time and got an infection. The caller reports she was not going to have that happen to her so she's taking her medicine. When Covid 19 first hit she had just seen her internal medicine specialist and he told her it's been over 5 years since she received the shingles vaccine and that she either needed to get a booster or get the new Shingrix vaccine. But then she couldn't get any vaccine for shingles because of Covid 19. Event outcome of shingles was recovering, of sore arm was recovered on 12Mar2021. No follow-up attempts are needed. No further information is expected.
