About 48 hours after receiving the vaccination, my son was in his high chair eating lunch. I asked him a question and noticed he had a blank stare on his face. I thought maybe he had zoned out or something so I said his name; he did not respond. I said it a few more times with increasing urgency with no response. I frantically removed him front the high char while saying his name. He was limp, motionless, eyes open with no expression - totally unresponsive. It was like the life went out of him. It was awful. I was in full panic about to call EMS when he came back. He was a little out of it but close to normal pretty quickly. I didn't know if fainting or something like that could happen after vaccination, so I called the pediatric office. They said it was not connected to the vaccine,. I was certain it was the vaccine based on his daily routines and usual behavior but appreciated their time. They said I didn't need to do anything, bring him in, etc and to call them if it happened again. And to call EMS if he went unresponsive again and didn't come back. Thankfully, there was not another incident. He has not had Pentacel since.

Symptomtext

PENTACEL was given 3 days post expiration, with no reported adverse event; Initial information was received on 28-Apr-2021 regarding an unsolicited valid non-serious case from a nurse. This case involves an unknown age and gender patient who was given DIPHTHERIA/TETANUS/5 HYBRID AC PERTUSSIS/IPV(MRC5)/HIB(PRP/T) VACCINE [PENTACEL] (lot number- UJ160AAA, expiry date-24-Apr-2021) via an unknown route in unknown administration site for prophylactic vaccination, 3 days post expiration on 27-Apr-2021, with no reported adverse event while receiving vaccine. Medical history, medical treatment(s), vaccination(s), concomitant medications and family history were not provided. It was case of an actual medication error due to expired vaccine used (latency: same day). At the time of report, no adverse event was reported. This suspected adverse reaction report is submitted and classified as a medication error solely and exclusively to ensure the marketing authorization holder's compliance with the requirements set out in the Directive 2001/83/EC and Module VI of the Good Pharmacovigilance Practices. The classification as a medical error is in no way intended, nor should it be interpreted or construed as an allegation or claim made by the marketing authorization holder that any third party has contributed to or is to be held liable for the occurrence of this medication error.
