Symptomtext

The patient received his Fluzone Quad vaccine on 10/25/20. On 10/27/20, 2 days after the vaccination, the patient exhibited a marked left-sided facial droop and oro-facial palsy that affected his speech. There was no pain reported. These changes were directly observed by me (father and clinical pharmacist), his mother ( nurse) and his step-mother (PhD genetic scientist). These symptoms were of new onset. He has no history of any reaction following previous childhood and adult vaccinations, including the 2019-20 Afluria Quad vaccination. He was seen by his primary care doctor on 10/29 and by that time, the facial symptoms had nearly completely resolved and his speech returned to his baseline. The provisional diagnosis was Bell's Palsy that resolved.

Symptomtext

I went to the store and was given the flu vaccine shot by a male pharmacist. I was properly seated on a chair with my left shoulder showing properly, however, immediately he inserted the needle in my left arm, i felt a sharp pain and knew instinctively that he inserted the needle in the wrong place, too low and too far to the back of my left arm. The pain intensified as he ejected the contents of the syringe in my arm and I told him that it was very painful but he assured me that the pain would ease after a few days. The pain never eased since that day till now, instead the pain got progressively worse. After a few weeks of continued and worsening pain, on March 31, 2021, I went to consult my primary doctor and she told me I had frozen shoulder from the flu shot. She prescribed steroids for me and gave me at-home exercise to do. After several months, my arm did not get better, but got worse. I lost range of motion in my left arm and cannot perform everyday tasks as before. My left arm has gotten progressively worse. The pain is excruciating and I cannot perform everyday tasks that I was used to before I took the flu shot on December 31, 2020. As the pain and loss of motion continued,in my left arm, I consulted my primary doctor again in August 2021 and she ordered an MRI for me. The MRI result indicate that I have fluid in my left shoulder joint, as well as inflammation and swelling in my left shoulder tendon and ........... As a result, my primary doctor referred me to an Orthopedic doctor to continue treatment. At my fist visit with the doctor on August 20, 2021, the doctor confirmed my injury, gave me an injection at the back of my left shoulder and gave me at-home therapy exercises to do for a month, after which I will see him again on September 24, 2021. I am perplexed and have lost many days of work and spent money on fixing my shoulder. I cry out in anguish when my left arm starts throbbing. The loss in range in motion is of great concern to me as I am not able to lean on my left elbow, cook, bath, properly dress and undress myself, open my car door, use drive-through, etc. I am currently undergoing physical therapy at an out-patient physical therapy facility.

MARCH 31, 2021 - First primary doctor visit to report injury. Doctor conducted physical examination of my left arm and diagnosed frozen shoulder as a result of the wrong administration of the flu vaccine. She prescribed steroids and at-home physical therapy. AUGUST 3, 2021 - Second primary doctor visit to report worsening pain and loss in range of motion in the vaccinated arm. Doctor ordered an MRI to determine extent of injury and prescribed steroids. AUGUST 7, 2021- MRI at IMAGING to determine extent of injury. AUGUST 20, 2021 - First Orthopedic doctor visit. X-rays done and MRI result evaluated. Doctor prescribed steroids and physical therapy immediately.
